What Are Corrugated Tree Guards?
In the fields of agriculture and horticulture, seedlings are often damaged by wind, rain, sun, or bitten by animals, resulting in low survival rates. They often need to be transplanted repeatedly, increasing planting and labor costs. To protect seedlings from damage, corrugated plastic tree protectors (also known as plastic tree guards) were born.
The corrugated tree protectors are made from PP corrugated sheets, and polypropylene is environmentally friendly material. When the plastic tree guards were launched, it was favored by many farmers and gardeners.
Select the Right Protective Tree Guards for Your Seedling
We have many kinds of plastic tree guards for customers. Here are some of the common types our customers use:

Corrugated plastic tree guard has been widely used as a protective tube for tree seedlings, preventing their growth from wind damage or foraging animals.

Keeping enough lights in, ventilation is very important, so it leaves vent holes on the shelter body to have aireasily goes in and out.

They are very durable, very fast to install, and remain presentable much longer than other forms of tree guard.

The thickness, shape, color, and special treatment, such as UV stabilized, can be customized.
Key Features of Our Plastic Tree Guards

The PP corrugated sheet structure is lighter in weight.

The foldable design can greatly save space and reduce the shipping cost.

It can be reused several times, which can greatly reduce the cost.

It has a strong structure and can withstand harsh environments.

Installation is actually simple. First, open the tree sheath and wrap it around the seedling. Then, insert the bottom of the tree into the soil a little bit, so that it can stand upright. The key step is that our product has reserved a hole for inserting piles at the bottom. You need to use matching wooden stakes or bamboo poles to pass through that hole and nail it into the soil, so that it is not easily blown down even in strong winds.
There is no fixed time for this, it depends on how the sapling looks. Usually, when the trunk of a sapling grows thicker than the diameter of the tree sheath and feels a bit cramped, it should be removed. Alternatively, if the canopy of the tree has started to emerge from the top of the sheath and the branches and leaves are fully exposed to light, it can be removed.
Sure, but it depends on the size of the deer and the height of the protective sheath. For ordinary white tailed deer, our commonly used 450mm and 600mm high standard sheaths can prevent them from gnawing on tree trunks. But if there are large wild animals (such as deer and elk) near the project site, whose feeding height can reach 70-80 centimeters, then you must choose a 900mm high sheath, and the recommended thickness of the board is 3mm or 4mm, in order to prevent them.
Our product is equipped with anti UV stabilizers, and under normal circumstances, it can be used for 3 to 5 years without any problems. We will provide boards of different thicknesses (2mm to 5mm) according to customer needs, with thicker boards being more durable. But the specific duration of use also depends on the local climate conditions.
The customized process of our plastic tree guards is:
Sample Preparation→You place an order → pay a deposit in advance→Output the plastic tree guards→ QualityInspection→Assembly→Packaging→You pay the final payment→Shipment
For general agricultural and forestry projects and household planting, choosing plastic tree sheaths is better: it saves money, effort, and provides more comprehensive protection. Only projects that face large wildlife in the long term need to consider barbed wire.
Protecting young trees from external threats is essential for agriculture.
Our corrugated tree protectors offer a simple yet effective solution to safeguard tender seedlings during their vulnerable early growth stages. These durable plastic tree tubes act as physical barriers, shielding delicate plants from harsh weather conditions, nibbling pests, and browsing animals that could otherwise stunt their development.
These corrugated tree protectors give your seedlings a better chance at establishing strong, healthy root systems and sturdy trunk growth from the outset. By minimizing environmental stressors, tree guards help ensure your new plantings can allocate more energy towards vigorous development.
How to choose the right plastic tree guards?
Choosing tree plastic guards for saplings is actually a very technical task. The commonly used sizes are 450mm, 600mm, and 900mm, and these three heights are the three most common used specifications for corrugated tree protectors for saplings. How should we choose this size? Let’s talk about it next.
When choosing plastic tree guards, many people believe that the higher the plastic tree circumference, the better, because only when it is high can the seedlings be fully protected. In fact, this idea is wrong because saplings require light, respiration, and gas exchange with the surrounding environment. If there is too much obstruction, it is easy to develop diseases. So choosing corrugated tree protectors is not about the higher the better, not about the more the better, but about being sufficient and easy to use.
The seedlings we just planted are at their most vulnerable stage.
How can we determine if this height is sufficient? The ground diameter of this seedling generally does not exceed 3cm, and the height of the entire seedling is only knee high. At this stage, we need to guard against very small animals such as rabbits and mice. Therefore, for this stage, a height of 450mm is just right. It is like a small fence, which can accurately reach about 40-50 centimeters above the junction of the roots and stems. Small animals cannot reach it, and the branches and leaves of the middle and upper parts of the seedling are completely unaffected by sunlight and ventilation. And for some shrubs’ seedlings and slower-growing tree species, this height can support them through the most fragile one or two years.
When the sapling grows to half a person’s height, its risk also changes.
It used to be just a threat from some little rabbits and mice, but now you may be facing wild dogs, sheep, or deer, whose feeding height is precisely 40-50 centimeters to 70-80 centimeters. If you haven’t removed the original tree shelter tubes, then you are completely exposing the middle branch of the tree to risk. And there is also a risk at this height, which is the wind. Its windward area is getting larger and larger. If a strong wind blows over, the tree trunk will shake violently, eventually causing the sapling to break. To avoid this situation, you need to replace the original plastic fence with a 600mm tree guard, which can effectively block animal feeding and reduce the swaying amplitude of the branches in the wind.
We also have plastic tree guards with a height of 900mm, which is actually quite special in terms of specifications.
It is not commonly used for residential greening and courtyard planting. But if the windbreak forest project in coastal areas, such as sea breeze, blows this sapling with salt spray for years, the water evaporation of this sapling will be very high. If there were no plastic tree guards to block it, the sea breeze would directly blow dry the trunk. At this point, the 900mm plastic tree guard is like putting a windproof coat on this sapling. When the wind speed drops and the humidity is maintained, the survival rate naturally increases. Furthermore, if there are large wildlife activities near the project where the tree is located, such as sika deer and roe deer, they are not at all polite when it comes to gnawing on tree bark. They must go up to 900mm to fully protect the entire trunk, and even the thickness of the board cannot be two millimeters. It must be paired with a 3mm or even 4mm board to stabilize.
Some people may say that I plant poplar and eucalyptus trees, which can grow one or two meters tall in a year. They grow very quickly. Can I just buy a 600mm one? If you need to protect this fast-growing sapling, you can still make do by buying a 600mm one to save costs. But if it is a slow-growing tree species, then you must match it according to the actual height step by step in order to be reasonable.
In addition to the height and thickness itself, attention should also be paid to the use of support piles.
Because corrugated tree guards also have a certain wind area when placed on the ground. If they are simply inserted into the soil, they can easily be uprooted on windy days, resulting in the seedlings not being protected properly and even being crushed, which is not worth the loss. So we reserved a gap for inserting stakes at the bottom of the plastic tree guards, and used matching stakes to directly penetrate the gap and nail it into the ground, so that the entire structure can stand steadily there.
The conclusion
Therefore, when choosing protective tree guards, we must choose the appropriate height based on the characteristics of the seedlings. Only by ensuring sufficient protection can the survival rate of the seedlings be guaranteed, and the energy required for later seedling repair and maintenance can be minimized.
