Is it necessary to use Corrugated Plastic Dividers?
Friends who do packaging know that damage to goods is a confusing account. The bottle is broken, the parts are scratched, and the electronic components are damaged by static electricity… Every time there is a problem, the first reaction is’ transportation is too violent ‘. But few people think: Is it because the packaging itself is not done well?
Today, we will talk about the corrugated plastic dividers, also known as hollow board partitions, knife cards, partitions, or dividing boards.
The key problem solved by dividers: goods do not touch goods
First, let me ask a question: Are your products in the box stacked directly together?
If so, they will collide with each other if there is a slight bump during transportation. If a glass bottle collides with another glass bottle and breaks, it will result in a batch of losses.
The usage of corrugated plastic dividers is simple: to separate each product without anyone touching anyone.
It sounds simple, but the effect is very practical. A customer who exports bottled beverages used to pack them directly in cardboard boxes, with a damage rate of around 12%. After replacing the corrugated plastic dividers, the damage rate decreased to below 1%. This is the value of partitions.
Why use plastic partitions instead of paper partitions?
Paper partitions are cheap, that’s a fact. But there are several problems with paper partitions:
Afraid of water: The humidity in the warehouse is high, and the humidity in the shipping container is high. When the paper partition is damp, it becomes soft. If the partition becomes soft, the product cannot be fixed.
Disposable: Used once and discarded, cannot be recycled or reused.
Insufficient strength: The thinner paper partition tore with a little force.
The hollow board partition/corrugated plastic divider is made of PP plastic, which is 100% waterproof and moisture-proof, and will not soften even when soaked in water. Moreover, it has good resilience and can be used repeatedly dozens of times without any problem. Although the unit price is a bit higher, the cost per use is actually lower.
What situations are suitable for using corrugated plastic dividers?
Not all products require corrugated plastic dividers. We have summarized a few of the most needed scenarios for you:
1. Bottled/canned products
Beverage bottles, wine bottles, seasoning bottles, cosmetic bottles… These cylindrical products are most prone to rolling and colliding in boxes. By using corrugated plastic dividers to divide the bottles, each bottle is in its position and not touching the others during transportation.
2. Glass/Ceramic products
Cups, plates, vases, handicrafts… these fragile items require the highest level of packaging protection. Thicken the partition (4-5mm), combined with the bottom layer pad, can effectively buffer the vibration during transportation.
3. Electronic components
PCB boards, chips, connectors, precision parts… These products are not only afraid of touch, but also of static electricity. Using anti-static (ESD) partitions can not only separate and protect, but also prevent static damage. To use corrugated plastic box dividers that can divide the parts, each bottle is in its position and will not wear out from the others.
4. Hardware/mechanical parts
The parts are packed in bulk in the corrugated plastic box and may scratch each other while being transported.

What should I consider while selecting corrugated plastic dividers?
What is the thickness that I need to choose?
Lightweight (below 500g): 2-3mm is perfect
Medium weight (0.5-5kg): 4mm is fine
Heavyweight (above 5kg): over 5mm, we suggest 6-8mm
If you are not sure of the thickness, choose the thicker one. Thickening the partition by 1mm doesn’t cost much more, but if it is damaged once, the loss is dozens of times the cost of the partition.
The size needs to be customized
Don’t buy standard-sized partitions to fit together. The partition should be cut according to the size of your box and products. There should not be too much of a gap between the partition and the box; the product will still shake inside.
Special functions mentioned in advance

Electronic components: To prevent static electricity (ESD)
Outdoor storage: UV-resistant (UV-stable)
These functions need to be determined during the formulation stage of the board, and cannot be added later.
